#269: We. Are. Obsessed.

Get ready for something absolutely wild.

If you’ve ever set foot in the Amazon, you’ll know that there’s more to it than enchanting rainforests and yet-to-be-cataloged species of wildlife. The Amazon rainforest is home to wild chocolate – something that’s completely different from the stuff you’ll find in your local supermarket.

You might know that the Amazon rainforest produces more than 20% of the world’s oxygen, but did you know that the Amazon is also a key source of wild chocolate?

Just how much chocolate, you ask?

Well, it’s estimated that over 60% of the world’s wild chocolate comes from the Amazon basin from countries like Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Bolivia.

That’s definitely the right amount of wild chocolate needed for us to indulge in Obsessions: Wild Chocolate.

This means that the future of wild chocolate is intrinsically linked to the future of the Amazon which already has a dark history of exploitation and environmental destruction.

Remember, the Amazon is largely inaccessible while also being a key source of livelihood for indigenous peoples, many of whom hold intimate knowledge of the forest and its resources. As more and more people become aware of the wonders of wild chocolate, the demand for it increases.

This self-proclaimed eight-episode fever dream is here to take you on a ride through the jungles of the Amazon in search of wild cacao. For those of you with an insatiable love of chocolate and podcasts, it’s bound to light up the pleasure centers of your brain.

Have a listen and share what you think.
