A Comedy Podcast About Race and Writing

You need to be pretty… bold, let’s say, to create a comedy podcast about racial issues and call it Whiting Wongs. But Dan Harmon, of Community and Rick and Morty fame, is used to pushing people’s buttons.

With the help of screenwriter Jessica Gao, he’s set off on a podcast journey to highlight his own privilege and, especially, his own ignorance as a successful white male in show business.

This podcast will make you uncomfortable, and that’s the point. From the faux-Asian theme song that sees Harmon sing in a accent (cringey) to the frank discussions Gao has about how white male writers think they own every story (heads up: they really don’t), Whiting Wongs doesn’t pull punches.

But it’s also two incredible funny people cracking jokes about each other and having a very open and honest conversation about their personal questions and struggles. It’s a lighthearted, at times stuttering, but effective look at a very topical issue.

Embrace the discomfort and enjoy,

Stephen and Evan
