Comedy fan? You probably don't know this...
Whether or not you consider yourself a fan of standup comedy, the names Seinfeld, Carlin, and Chapelle probably conjure up images of an empty stage, a stool with a bottle of water, and a microphone. This tradition of standup, which is so ingrained in our society, is actually a relatively new phenomenon. Before 1947, the term “standup” didn’t even exist.
The History of Standup, a new podcast from Podglomorate, aims to casually educate the humor enthusiasts among us. From the early days of television, to the Netflix special on your recommended watching list, it’s all covered.
The podcast is hosted by 30-year comic veteran and literal professor of comedy history Wayne Federman, and Andrew Steven, whose credits, their website openly states, “aren’t as impressive.” Throughout the series, the duo cover some of the biggest milestones and moments in laughter, with the help of amazing sound bytes and special comedic guests (cough Judd Apatow cough).
Have a listen and a laugh, and let us know what you think.
