[Podcast] Exposing The Massive Scam That Is Multilevel Marketing
Did you know you could make millions selling tights, essential oils, or energy drinks on Facebook? All you need is to do is sit at the very, very top of a pyramid, while regular people with dreams of financial independence throw sales parties, guilt their friends and families, and sometimes lose their own life savings trying to offload stock that they’ve already purchased from you.
This is, at its core, the basis of most multilevel marketing schemes (MLMs). But there’s so much more to the story, and its those details that are brought to the forefront by the podcast The Dream.
The type of questionably-legal operations covered in this podcast have been around since the 70s, but have taken on new fervour in the age of social media, especially amongst those in already tenuous financial situations. Host Jane Marie brings you to her own hometown of Owosso, Michigan, and speaks with friends and family members who have long been involved in MLMs, and continue to be involved to this day.
In doing so, she brings the human side of these scams to the forefront. These aren’t just news stories you hear about when it all falls apart; these are the day to day struggles of hardworking people looking for a better life.
Have a listen and let us know what you think.
