What’s the equivalent of a referee outside of the sports world? Who are the people that enforce the rules, and determine what is fair and what isn’t? Judges? The police? The government?

Now what happens when we start treating those referees the same as we treat sports referees. A stadium full of people yelling “Ref you suck!” suddenly has serious social consequences.

In his new podcast Against the Rules, Moneyball author Michael Lewis is looking at society’s referees, the undeniable difficulty of their role and how they’re looked at by the public. He also tackles what happens if these people were to lose their authority. This includes everyone from basketball referees to grammar police to authenticators.

Have a listen and let us know what you think.
