Is half the land in Oklahoma Indigenous land?

The U.S. Supreme Court will make a decision on that at some point this year. As the treaty rights of five tribes hang in the balance, this important ruling will largely be influenced, oddly enough, by two killings.

Confused? Crooked Media’s new podcast This Land has the answers.

The first of the deaths was a Cherokee leader who signed a treaty handing over much of his tribe’s land. The second was a vicious 1999 murder in Oklahoma, near the border between government land and Indian Land. Weaved together they tell a story about the treatment of Indigenous Peoples by the American government, both past and present.

This Land is hosted by Rebecca Nagle, an Oklahoma journalist and citizen of the Cherokee Nation. She brings insightful, first-hand storytelling to a very complex situation.

Have a listen and let us know what you think.
