[Podcast] The CIA wrote a hair metal anthem?!
Itβs really hard to come up with a clever way to describe something that just defies imagination, so here it is: the CIA might have written a hair metal song in 1990.Huh? Why though? What could they gain? It all comes down to soft power. And if you're not sure what that means, we're begging you to listen to this podcast.
In 1990, the USSR had broken up and the Cold War was finally over. The song Wind of Change, by German band Scorpions β known more for single Rock You Like a Hurricane β became a sort of anthem for that period of time. A trusted source told investigative journalist Patrick Radden Keefe that the CIA actually wrote the song, and so this whirlwind podcast was born. Have a listen (while isolating at home), and let us know what you think.
