Seventy-five years ago this past week, the United States dropped bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those moments of horror marked the culmination of years of research built on the back of Leo Szilard — the man who first thought up the idea of a nuclear chain reaction. That puts Szilard in a very interesting place in the history books, as one of very few men who could have prevented the most devastating and destructive bombings in human history.New podcast The Bomb tells the story of the atomic bomb through his unique lens.

It’s rare to be able to explore a new angle on such a widely-documented historical event. What makes this podcast even more interesting is that host Emily Strasser’s grandfather also worked on the creation of the atomic bomb. She brings an interesting perspective to the story — and to the question of what could have been if a few choice decisions were made differently. Have a listen and let us know what you think.
