[Podcast] Did you hear that? It's The Wind.
Major North American cities face many problems and Toronto is no different. Canada's largest city is not immune to housing affordability crises, overdose epidemics, or growing populations of unhoused people in encampments scattered through parks and under parkways across the city.
Add a global pandemic to the mix and you've got a recipe for a slow-moving disaster that is thoughtfully captured in
We Are Not the Virus.
Through interviews with members of some of Toronto's encampments, we hear the rich stories of the people who are usually forgotten. Many chose to tough it out since public shelters became incubators for COVID-19 but the city was already working on ways to shut down encampments and displace an already at-risk population.2020 was awful. We agree. But just because we turn the calendar to a new year doesn't mean we get to turn a blind eye to the severe social issues that have been amplified and accelerated by the pandemic that has affected us all.Have a listen and let us know what you think,
