Now, on to the main attraction.
"Mother nature is mad and when she gets mad, she retaliates."
– Juan Manuel Santos, former President of Colombia
This clip from Forces of Nature’s debut episode resonated so strongly when we heard it, we knew we were going to share it with you here.
It may have had something to do with the 50°C heat dome that overtook much of North American at the time. That’s 122°F for those of you who don’t do the metric system but no matter how you measure temperature, it seemed like people were finally waking up to the idea that this isn’t “global warming” – it’s a full-on climate and environmental crisis.
And if that wasn’t enough for you, a hellmouth opened up in the Gulf of Mexico and the entire town of Lytton, BC burned to the ground after setting new national all-time temperature highs for three consecutive days.
The WWF marks its 60th anniversary with Forces of Nature, a podcast all about the global conservation effort. As we pointed out earlier, many of us are experiencing the catastrophic decline in our planet's biodiversity first hand.
If you're lucky enough to not yet be affected by the ongoing climate crisis, this podcast will give you perspective with inspiring conversations from conservationists and environmentalists, young and old alike. The first three episodes include:
the aforementioned former President of Colombia, 69-year-old Juan Manuel Santos and 18-year-old Zimbabwean climate activist, Nkosi Nyathi
a literal princess: 64-year-old Princess Esméralda of Belgium and 22-year-old indigenous reindeer herder from Sweden and Saami activist, Martina Fjällberg
67-year-old British theologian, Martin Palmer and 24-year-old filmmaker from India, Malaika Vaz
The World Wildlife Fund has been around for two generations and in that time we have managed to desecrate our forests, rivers, and oceans. It's time to smarten up or else we'll all succumb to the Forces of Nature.
Have a listen and let us know what you think,
