You’re a podcast fan. You wouldn’t be reading this if that weren’t the case. You probably enjoy the radio too. At least some aspect of it, anyway.

Now, consider this: the golden age of radio led to the growth of fringe politics, provocative pundits, and a Trump Presidency. At least that’s the argument being made in CBC’s The Flamethrowers. Basically, right-wing radio radicalized America and Justin Ling is going to connect the dots for you.

The power that comes with a medium as ubiquitous as radio (and by today’s standards, podcasting) should be pretty clear to us all. If it's not, this podcast will help.

Say what you will about American politics. Say even more about conservative American politics. All that aside, there is no denying how effective and important a clear and cogent message is when you're seeking political power.

Clips from the radio of yesteryear are easy to romanticize, and with the way The Flamethrowers splices them into the narrative, it makes for something you may not want to listen to at full blast while driving with the windows down (sorry most of W 4th Ave!). Some of the things that were said over the airwaves were downright evil.

Despite this, you get to draw a clear line from the early days of radio all the way to the fractured and fragmented political hellscape of today, where all anyone wants is your attention, and they'll say or do anything to get it.

Have a listen and let us know what you think,
