It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's the next podcast you need to listen to!

The Superhero Complex kicks things off by covering the Rain City Superhero Movement – a group of crime-fighting, costumed vigilantes who endeavored to protect the city of Seattle in the early 2010s. Seriously.

We sort of get it. It’s hard to argue just how fascinating superheroes are. They’ve taken over the box office, the small screen, and video games; but somehow not podcasts (the tie-in podcasts for The Batman or The Boys don’t count). Their stories follow the same arcs as you see in ancient Greek literature. Superheroes serve as role models and sources of inspiration. But we never expected them to also be a source of aspiration.

Real-life superheroes are people inspired by comic book characters so much so they create their own superhero persona. They sometimes have their own weapons and definitely make their own costumes. All based on some fictitious character they once read about in a book or saw in a movie.

Once they've got that locked down, they take to the streets to fight actual crime in the very real world.

The Superhero Complex offers up a lot – an enthralling backstory, complex drama, and unexpected nuance like host David Weinberg’s NyQuil-fueled fever dream and near-rendezvous with Phoenix Jones, the leader of the Rain City Superhero Movement.

As ridiculous as it may seem, we get to hear Phoenix unpack his origin story in earnest (every superhero needs a good origin story, obviously) and reveal how his contempt of law enforcement has evolved as his notoriety as a real-life superhero grew.

We’re excited for this story to unfold and fully expect some superhero tropes to make their way to your feed. We’re here to get ahead of them because it’s not every day you get to review a podcast about a group of people inspired enough to be superheroes.

So, if you find yourself giving in to the urge to be a superheroe, just remember this: every hero needs a villain, with great power comes great responsibility, and capes are generally a bad idea.
