#243 May 2nd, 2022 [Dead End: A New Jersey Political Murder Mystery]
π₯ Pushing Daisies in the Garden State
In the early hours of September 28, 2014, an unsuspecting neighbor noticed the beginnings of a fire at the residence of John and Joyce Sheridan in a sleepy New Jersey suburb. Firefighters arrived on the scene to put out the two-alarm fire and uncover the butchered and bludgeoned bodies of both Sheridans, kicking off this incredible story filled with mystery, corruption, and doubts. That story makes its way to your ears on Dead End: A New Jersey Political Murder Mystery
At any point before this, everyone in the neighborhood left their front doors unlocked. Really. The idyllic cul-de-sac would be the beating heart of an otherwise safe and quiet community; the mainstay being kids pedaling bikes around and getting up to no good.
But the brutal killing of the Sheridans is only the tip of the iceberg. John Sheridan was a prominent figure in New Jersey politics having fostered a solid reputation with three of the state's Governors. They formed relationships with politicians on both sides of the aisle and built successful reputations with everyone they met.
The Sheridan's deaths brought a new focus onto all of that. Investigators botched nearly everything you could possibly botch β they ruled the deaths a murder-suicide despite evidence suggesting otherwise and they demonstrated general incompetence that will frustrate the hell out of you.
Naturally, their sons stepped into the picture to try and get some answers but the problem was they were just as connected as their parents β one of the sons was following in their father's legal footsteps β and conflicts of interest cast more doubt and uncertainty at every turn. Sometimes, conflicts of interest didn't need to exist for police to sniff around the family unnecessarily.
You don't need to know much about New Jersey or New Jersey politics to get into Dead End: A New Jersey Political Murder Mystery. There are legitimate jaw-dropping moments that show up when you least expect them to and then you're left feeling bewildered while processing the real-life effects on the people involved.
