It's terminal.

At least, that's what Benji learns in the not-too-distant future. As he and his friend Jacob come to terms with Benji's terminal cancer diagnosis, we learn how this future world works.

Like others with a terminal diagnosis in this tilted version of the future, Benji has the option to end his suffering. But, to see that through he must attend a weeklong bootcamp at "The Garden".

This bizarro future world is one of the first things to draw you in – it's familiar enough to paint a vivid picture in your mind's eye, but it's ever-so-slightly off in all the wrong ways.

The biggest and oddest flag is a condition called fine-ness. People are simply fine with whatever is happening around them. No strong opinions one way or another; people are just "fine".

The end result? You're left with a baseline feeling of uneasiness and uncertainty and that is exactly what you want from the twisted, cerebral thriller The End Up.

While Benji slowly steps down the path toward his physician-assisted death, Jacob navigates the beginnings of a world without his friend and usually finds a way to lose even more trust in the system.

That skepticism comes with good reason and is enough to plant a seed in listeners' minds. Jungle, a corporation that definitely isn't modeled after Facebook (πŸ™„), is everywhere and does a great job at coming off as untrustworthy.

Can Jacob and Benji avoid disagreement in Benji's final days?

Will Benji and his parents find pre-emptive closure before he passes?

Why are people with elephant allergies getting the sniffles with nary an elephant in sight?

These questions are just the tip of the iceberg that is The End Up.
