Even if you're not in the US, there's a lot to make sense in the run-up to the 2022 US midterm election. This year, all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 33 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate are up for grabs. As always with the midterm elections, its results will signal what Americans – and the world – can expect heading into the next presidential election.

If you're not American or if you're completely done with US politics, we get it. Despite the overkill and outrageousness of it all, there are a few reasons to stay in the know by following The Run-Up.

The current nature of the world has all eyes on... well, everything. The US remains a geo-political leader and whoever's running the country has an influence across the globe. Best to get a sense of the headwinds now, as they're being conjured and even if you're not in the US.

The Run-Up captures the sentiments of Americans everywhere, not just in your own backyard. The New York Times' dedication to its journalistic standards holds true throughout each of the episodes, giving a glimpse into the lives of the people voting in November.

Best of all, Astead Herndon returns to do what he did so well on The Daily, but this time in a dedicated podcast focused on understanding the layered intricacies of American politics and what that means as people take to the polls to vote in a referendum on the party in power and so much more.

Have a listen and share what you think.
