#120: The U.S. Navy Couldn’t Even Figure Out This Mystery

Alien artifact? Part of a NASA satellite? What the heck is the Betz sphere?

In 1974, 21-year-old Antoine Betz was walking on the family’s 88-acre wooded property with his mother Gerri when he stumbled on what looked like a big silver bowling ball. He brought it home, and that’s when things got weird.

Betz was playing guitar and the ball started vibrating and pulsing. Then the 22-pound object started rolling around the house, entirely on its own. They had no idea what they had discovered. And it turns out, no one else had any idea either.

This is the mystery of one Odd Ball.

Once the U.S. Navy took an interest in the object, it soon made headline news. Gerri Getz and her family were thrust into the spotlight, but soon stopped speaking to reporters or talking about the newly dubbed Getz sphere.

This podcast is one reporter’s attempt to find out what the sphere was, who has it now, and why the Getz family no longer talks about that weird discovery from over 40 years ago.
