#222: Turn On, Tune In (To This Podcast), Drop Out

Power dynamics don't necessarily dissolve when you're chasing a trip

Years ago, a friend of the newsletter waxed poetic about the Great San Francisco Acid Wave. He couldn't help but feel that the creativity, ingenuity, and savviness San Francisco is known for might have something to do with The Summer of Love or all the psychedelics being passed around in the heyday of the 1960s and ‘70s.

Whether or not that’s true doesn’t really matter.

What does matter is the very real and very troubling stigma associated with drugs and the people who indulge in them.

What matters are the longstanding impacts of a failed war on drugs.

What matters is the experiences you have while using drugs and what you intend to do with those experiences.

In season 1 of Cover Story called Power Trip, listeners get a glimpse into the experiences of those deeply involved in the ongoing psychedelic renaissance.

For some, altered or augmented experiences are a euphoric and a positive way to look inward when needed. These positive experiences are increasingly easy to come by thanks to the psychonauts, chemists, shamans and spiritual guides; many of whom are just a click away.

If an altered consciousness is what you're after, know that not all experiences are guaranteed to be positive. That’s just the reality of things when you're trying to alter reality.

Power Trip deals with the psychedelic underground and the potential pitfalls that come with all the allure of letting go to find yourself. It touches on serious subject matter as well, which means you'll want to take it all in with intention.
