If art is cyclical, who stewards the art form?

Santigold is a recording artist whose art spans platforms, genres, and nearly 20 years. You may remember hearing her debut 2007 single Creator/L.E.S. Artistes when it created the right kind of buzz to get picked up by media outlets and the wild corners of early 2000s Internet. Oh, and also that thing called the radio.
Let's fast-forward to today when radios are confined to cars and Santigold has four studio albums to her name. The most recent of which – Spirituals – was released last month to critical acclaim thanks to its range in styles and its innovative soundscapes.
So how does this line up with this week’s podcast recommendation?
It all stems from the spirituality of art and the Kandinsky triangle. The Kandinsky triangle is meant to encapsulate how artists might see their work, the way they create it, and the interconnectedness that exists between the artist and their viewers.
Throughout the course of pandemic lockdown, Santi grew to be inspired by artist and painter Wassily Kandinsky who said that "periods during which art has no noble champion, during which the true spiritual food is wanting, are periods of retrogression in the spiritual world".
That quote spawned here album Spirituals and this week's podcast recommendation: Noble Champions.
Noble Champions is touted as a roundtable outlet for creatives where conversations bloom like the ones you would have at the salon, catching up with friends and building community.
When the goal is to bridge the gap between artists, the peers they admire, the aspiring young creatives they want to help, and the audience they want to reach; you can’t help but be pulled in.
The ideal Noble Champion is someone in the community who should be celebrated. Someone who serves as a true pioneer, innovator and changemaker in their field. Being around that type of person, even in the form of a podcast, will undoubtedly enrich your soul.
The variety of guests that pop up on the podcast include Yasiin Bey, Idris Elba, Questlove, Tunde Adebimpe, Saul Williams, Olivia Wilde and many more artists who offer you the same invitation – an intimate gathering of the minds.
This isn’t your average music podcast. Have a listen, sit with it, and share what you think.
