45 years ago, on November 26, 1977, Southern Television’s Five O’Clock News was interrupted –

"This is the voice of Vrillon, a representative of the Ashtar Galactic Command, speaking to you. For many years you have seen us as lights in the skies. We speak to you now in peace and wisdom as we have done to your brothers and sisters all over this, your planet Earth."

The broadcast signal intrusion goes on to achieve its intent: pass along an important message to humanity so we could avoid the disasters that threaten our world. Vrillon encouraged us to get our act together and "abandon all weapons of evil", or else.

More than a generation has passed since that broadcast and with hindsight, its likely fair to chalk this up as a hoax. True or not, this event has puzzled experts for decades.
