Radicalization in the wellness industry isn’t a new thing. People looking for answers to grandiose questions will usually find them one way or another. So when a savvy yoga teacher subverts the norms and expectations of what it means to be a yoga teacher, well, you’ve got yourself a captivating and charismatic person that people will listen to and put stock in.

Then, a viral pandemic does what it tends to do and everything changes again.

In-person yoga classes are few and far between. The business behind the yoga practice is threatened so cunning teachers turn to alternative ways of connecting with their students – Youtube channels, podcasts, physically distanced private sessions – you name it.

If you’re keeping score, there isn’t anything overtly controversial about this. Lots of small businesses took a hit and those that managed to stick around did so because they adapted to the ever-changing rules and government recommendations.

But, when we’re dealing with a yoga teacher to the stars who is mid-descent into a conspiracy theory rabbit hole, things get a little dicey and we get Imperfect Paradise: Yoga's "Queen of Conspiracy Theories".

So how do we manage to get to QAnon you ask?

The wellness to QAnon pipeline is real and the perfect storm of crazy and volatile ideas that just click for some in the yoga community. Suddenly, “find your truth” takes on a whole new meaning and people begin to embrace conspiracy theories thanks to the overlap in thinking.

The hard stance against established industries and government. The shilling of alternative supplements. The questioning of traditional practices in science and medicine. It all adds up and before you know it, a once yogi-entrepreneur is harboring anti-vaccine conspiracy theories and is a full-blown QAnon believer.

We're not saying your next yoga session will pull you into the underworld and evil cabal of the elites who are out to get you. Just always be on the lookout for the next queen of conspiracy theories, she’s already out there.
