9/11 will cast a shadow over a lot for a long time to come. As ludicrous as it seems to have had one attack, sometimes it stands to remind people that there was an attempt to topple the Twin Towers before September 11, 2001.

On February 26, 1993, the first attack on the World Trade Center occurred when a bomb was detonated in a rented van in the underground parking garage of the North Tower. The explosion killed six people and injured over 1,000.

The attack was perpetrated by Ramzi Yousef who, with accomplices, had plotted to bring down one of the towers. They were associated with the militant group al-Qaeda.

Remember, this was 30 years ago. The world’s security apparatus wasn’t as far-reaching as it is today. The whole idea of attacking the World Trade Center was unfathomable and when terrorists did blow a massive hole in the ground, New Yorkers took it in stride and found a way to move on.
