#313: These 5 Guys Usually Strike Late at Night

When a group chat turns into a podcast.

Unless you get your news exclusively from the late-night talkshow hosts that aren’t on the air at the moment, you’ve probably caught wind of Strike Force Five, the ensemble podcast from the five kingdoms of late-night TV: Oliver, Colbert, Kimmel, Myers, and the man who refuses to ever be forgotten – Fallon.

We know what you might be thinking– great another podcast with a bunch of men talking about how wealthy and successful they are. Unfortunately, those wealthy and successful men don’t lack any self-awareness and call that out at the top of episode one. They also go on to plug their other podcasts not before comparing their honorary doctorates. For real.

Good thing cringe is in these days.

While this might be the most recent example of peak podcasting, it’s not all self indulgence and ego-stroking. Proceeds made through Strike Force Five’s advertising deals will go to support the hosts’ out-of-work staffs.

The real thing to pay attention to here is that the broader late-night TV industry isn’t defined by these five men though they recognize their influence over it.

If you’ve watched old-school network television after 11 PM at any point in the last 10 years, you’ve more than likely caught glimpses of how each of these hosts are different from one another while still being in the same vein as Carson, Cavett, Letterman, and Leno.

That means you probably have opinions about who is good and who is terrible at what they do. So, it begs the question…
