#362: What’s More American Than Apple Pie?

You already know the answer, you just have to reckon with reality.

That’s probably the most quintessentially American thing, other than putting cheddar cheese on apple pie, which, let’s be real, is something you can only pull off if you’re using really good cheese, and really good cheese rarely comes from America.

More specifically, America has cultural stranglehold on incidents of gun violence in schools, with 413 school shootings since 19991. Looking at the period between 2009 and 2018, the United States had 57 times more school shootings than the combined total of the six other G7 nations during the same period2.

The prevalence and frequency of school shootings in the United States are unparalleled, but somehow this week’s podcast recommendation still winds up leaving you absolutely shocked at what can happen when someone brings a gun to school.
