It’s no secret that the American correctional system disproportionately incarcerates individuals from marginalized communities, often prioritizing punishment over rehabilitation.
Prison conditions are marked by overcrowding, underfunding, and inhumane treatment. Inmates regularly endure substandard healthcare, unsanitary environments, limited mental health support, and extended periods of solitary confinement. These conditions often compound trauma and do little to reduce recidivism or support rehabilitation.
