We may not need another podcast reminding us that navigating the American justice system can be a drawn-out and hellish experience.
What we do need is a new podcast from a team that knows how to build a top-tier production.
Have you ever wondered what it truly takes to stop the wheels of justice from turning? Or, more chillingly, what it takes to stop them from crushing the wrong person
The Last 12 Weeks doesn’t just slap a Serial Productions label onto a story that fits the narrative non-fiction formula it helped popularize. It breathes new life into a genre that can sometimes feel exhaustingly predictable.
That renewed energy comes from its focus on the high-pressure world of capital defense, giving you a rare look at the final effort to save a life before the clock runs out.
Sometimes, the race against time isn’t a figure of speech.
Sometimes it’s literal.
The Last 12 Weeks transports us back more than three decades. David Wood became known as the Desert Killer, his name forever linked to the discovery of young women’s bodies in the El Paso desert. But as his execution date approaches, a question hangs over everything:
Is David Wood actually guilty?
Across five captivating episodes you’ll probably end up binging in a single day, the series exposes the cracks in the judicial system while detailing the immense pressure facing a defense team scrambling to uncover new evidence and potential miscarriages of justice.
Capital punishment remains one of society’s most polarizing issues, and The Last 12 Weeks examines its human consequences with remarkable access and insight. This isn’t just a tale of innocence versus guilt; it's a deep dive into human determination in the face of an unrelenting machine.
Have a listen, and let us know what you think.
