Small towns often reveal big problems.
That can be especially true when the town serves as a gateway, a place where people are always passing through, arriving from somewhere or headed somewhere else.
In this case, it's Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
Known as Mile Zero of the Alaska Highway, the town is the focus of the latest season of CBC's Uncover.
Veteran investigator and host Timothy Sawa ventures into a community gripped by the drug trade, uncovering disturbing accounts of violence while investigating a wave of disappearances and murders that has left residents fearful and searching for answers.
For better or worse, The Mile Zero Murders paints the portrait of a town caught in a vicious cycle where escalating criminal activity is met with a frustratingly muted response from authorities.

That doesn't change one unavoidable fact:
Eight people disappeared from the same small northern town in just two years.
Eventually, coincidence stops feeling like an explanation.
The only question anyone wants answered remains unanswered:
What keeps happening to people here?
The Mile Zero Murders is less the story of a series of crimes than the story of a community trapped inside an ecosystem of drugs, violence, fear, and unfinished justice.
As Sawa follows leads through trailer parks, search routes, and alleged criminal networks, the series keeps trying to understand what happens when an entire town knows something is terribly wrong, but no one seems able to stop it.
Have a listen and let us know what you think.
